We are excited to invite the community to a special one-night United States Marshals Museum performance featuring The Latehomecomer, a powerful story about the Hmong experience in America following the Vietnam War. This performance is part of the NEA Big Read and offers a unique opportunity to engage with literature and cultural history in a deeply meaningful way.
About the Performance:
The Latehomecomer is a memoir by Kao Kalia Yang, which chronicles her family’s journey from the war-torn jungles of Laos to refugee camps in Thailand and ultimately to the United States. Through her evocative storytelling, Yang reflects on the resilience of her people and the challenges they faced in their quest to build a new life in America.
Performed by the talented Hmong actress Gaosong Heu, this event brings to life the intimate, emotional, and universal experience of immigration while shedding light on the rich cultural heritage of the Hmong community. The performance is a tribute to Yang’s grandmother and a powerful testimony to the strength and perseverance of a people whose voices have long been unheard.
